Q2 media and collective identity



British
teenagers (youth ages 13-25)
in the media


20 marks explanation, argument, analysis 
20 marks examples
10 marks theory/ terminology 

Use 3 types of media e.g. film, web, tv, newspaper, social, youtube, magazines.
in the last 5 years 


First 3/4 of essay- historical representation- birth of the teen in the 50's to present day 
Bulk- The last 5 years of representation.
Finally- reflection on the future, will the representations change the future?  


what is collective identity?  The individuals sense of belonging to a group.
the way reality is mediated to us.  ( re represented to us)

is there any such thing as having a collective identity? 


how are young people represented in the media? is it accurate?
consider the dominant negative media image.
young people create their own subculture their own collective identity  with their own values and codes.
